| 33 Junor, pencil by Gilbert Spencer. 'Junor, the pilot of the B.E.12 now alone at Azrak, heard from the disabled Murphy of the enemy machines about Deraa, and decided in his own mind to take the Bristol's place, and carry out the air programme we had arranged. So when things were at their thickest with us he suddenly arrived, and sailed into the middle of the circus. 'We watched with very mixed feelings, for his machine was hopelessly old-fashioned, and made him cold meat for any one of the enemy scouts or two-seaters: but at first he astonished them, as he rattled in with his guns, and they scattered to right and left for a careful look at this unexpected opponent.' Elsewhere, Lawrence commented that this is: 'A good portrait of Junor: especially the pig’s eyes. I rather like it.' |
