29 Joyce, pencil by Frank Dobson.

'He asked if Joyce would not do as commanding officer at Akaba: and this suited me perfectly. Joyce was a man in whom one could rest against the world, a serene, unchanging comfortable spirit. His mind was like a green landscape, with four corners to its view, cared-for, friendly, limited, displayed.'

Frank Dobson, pencil.
