| Frontispiece: Feisal, oil by Augustus John. Lawrence almost certainly arranged the sittings for this 1919 oil, which he then acquired. It was the first of the Seven Pillars portraits and may have been the inspiration for the entire series. He used it as the frontispiece to the subscribers’ edition of Seven Pillars. Afterwards, together with Kennington's pastel of Allenby, it hung at Clouds Hill. When Lawrence died the original portrait was presented to the Ashmolean Museum,Oxford. |
